The governments of France and the U.S. are in collusion to pave the way for former Haitian dictator, Jean Claude Duvalier, to resume the presidency. Analysts ensure this is the situation planned for the Caribbean nation.
The Haitian social leader, Edmond Frederic, said the return of Duvalier to Haiti, which occurred on January 16, is the result of a commitment to, through a judicial farce, putting dirt into the crimes against humanity committed during the 15 years that he ruled with absolutism.
“What is wanted,” said the agronomist based in Puerto Rico, “is to make a viable bid for the presidency for Duvalier, after years of a governability crisis caused by foreign powers that have impeded the democratization of Haiti.”
The labor lawyer, Alejandro Torres Rivera, agreed that the imperialist powers have constantly guaranteed the tragedy that plagues the people of Haiti, which has been exacerbated by the earthquake that destroyed Port au Prince a year ago.
“The arrival of Duvalier in Haiti cannot have taken France or the United States by surprise, not just by how he was received at the airport in Port-au-Prince, but because he boarded the plane without any problem that brought him from Paris,” argued journalist Nelson del Castillo, secretary general of the Latin American Federation of Journalists (FELAP).
The leader of FELAP established the way in which they moved the strings of imperial diplomacy to “legitimize” the presence of Duvalier in the impoverished nation. He noted that while Duvalier could move freely in Port-au-Prince, the return of popular former president Jean Bertrand Aristide has been prevented. He has no opportunity to leave South Africa, where he is a refugee, and he lacks a valid passport.
Frederic said that neither France nor the United States have an interest in helping Haiti to overcome its economic, political and social backwardness from which it suffers.
He said that Cuba is one of the few countries in the world that really cares about helping Haiti in its tragedy. He cited the example that in the last decade, Havana has constantly maintained sanitary and educational aid to benefit Haitians.
The training of doctors and other professionals from Haiti is emphasized at Cuban universities, such as the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM). Analysts agree that the government of Rene Preval has little chance to maneuver in the present circumstances, because the foreign powers keep him handcuffed.
“It is possible that in the next elections Duvalier will be a candidate who will win the presidency, after he releases himself from the crimes he committed during his dictatorship,” concluded Del Castillo.
