Leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa will gather in Sanya on South China’s island province of Hainan to attend the third BRICS Leaders Meeting. The five largest emerging economies will explore joint opportunities for economic and other development.
The resort city, Sanya, is ready for this Thursday’s event. Reporters from more than 200 media outlets from around the world have arrived. This is the first BRICS leaders’ meeting after South Africa joined the bloc late last year.
China says it hopes to reach consensus with other countries on global challenges, including the reform of the international monetary system, and joint efforts against climate change.
BRICS nations accounts for 18 percent of the global GDP, and their combined population accounts for 40 percent of the world’s total.
