Peace was the wish of the whole Korean nation, Yang Chol Sik, secretary of the Korean Nation League of Motherland Unification, said on Wednesday.
If all Koreans, including those overseas, were united to oppose war and safeguard peace, peace on the Korean Peninsula could be guaranteed, Yang told Xinhua.
Yang said tension on the peninsula was due to South Korea’s denial of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and Oct. 4 Joint Statement as well as its confrontation policy.
The South Korean authorities halted the cooperation and dialogue with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and constantly held joint military exercises with the United States, making the situation of the peninsula deteriorate, he said.
The moves, including “psychological war,” brought greater difficulty to the independent and peaceful unification of the peninsular, he said.
If the efforts to safeguard peace could be continued, the result would be better, Yang said.
