On August 21, 2013, Fareed El-Deeb—lawyer of deposed dictator Mubarak—announced that an Egyptian court ordered the release of former dictator President Hosni Mubarak, who had been ousted on February 2011, and was jailed for his role in the assassination of over 800 demonstrators.
In 2012, Mubarak had been sentenced to life in jail, but a retrial was later ordered after his appeal was upheld. The retrial opened in May, 2013.

Since Mubarak has now served the maximum amount of pre-trial detention permitted in the case, the Court ordered his release within 48 hours, unless the State appeals.

The ruling of the military-driven Court is a charade. It came just over a month after that democratically elected President Mohamed Morsi, the first civilian and the first freely elected President of Egypt, was violently ousted by dictator General Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who had been Morsi’s Minister of Defense.
As reported in Egyptian Dictator and Israel Declare Mutual Love, the mid-August protests against the unlawful military regime were brutally repressed. General Sisi—as he is nicknamed—has already killed more Egyptians than Mubarak in February 2011.
Keeping Mubarak in jail was something that General Sisi couldn’t allow. It would have been a clear hint what should be done with him. Accordingly, a court convened in the Tora Cairo jail on Wednesday by an army-backed release petition, decided to free Mubarak. In fact, it only rendered Egyptian justice illegitimate.
General Sisi had more reasons than his personal freedom to release the preceding dictator.

On 3 July 2013, the enlightened USA-educated General Sisi, true promoter of democracy and selfless protector of the people, had violently removed President Mohamed Morsi and suspended the Egyptian constitution in the name of freedom, democracy and true-love.
In the last weeks, he is rolling back the democratic changes that took place in Egypt since the 2011 thrown-out of thinly-disguised Mubarak’s military-dictatorship.
The Egyptian army is a self-serving elite living out of the American military help. The close relations between the ousted president and the Muslim Brotherhood endangered the American generous financial help to its foreign puppet-generals.
Other American allies in the area—Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates—were equally worried about allowing Egyptian Islamists to run the government. The Muslim Brotherhood had achieved the presidency after an 80-year long democratic struggle. They have passed the democracy test better than any European or American political party. Yet, they don’t follow the desired Colonialist policies of the West.
Thus, the new dictator got a promise from the Middle-Eastern Western colonies to receive $12 billion in aid since Morsi’s overthrow. These countries were closely related to Mubarak, having condemned the detention of the dictator. This put further pressure on the new dictator to release the former one. With $12 billion he can buy plenty of new weapons of mass destruction and attack his unruly people.

The release of the ageing dictator is only symbolic. Mubarak won’t return to politics. Yet, the message is clear: “the army is back in power, no sissy Islamist will spoil the game, General Sisi will democratically oppress and rule them with a fist of iron for the eternal glory of Swiss-bank accounts.”*
Unable to struggle democratically, unable to convince the people that they are honest, the Egyptian Army chose to destroy the largest political force in the country. The army dictatorship has said that the Brotherhood will be banned. Its license to operate as a political party will be revoked, and the party will be forcefully dissolved, in a rare example of what Western-backed democracy really means.
It is not only the license that has been targeted. Thousands have been arrested, including all the senior leadership except Mohammed al-Beltagi and Essam el-Erian, whose whereabouts are unknown. Yesterday, August 20, Mohamed Badie—the spiritual leader of the movement—was arrested. He joined the illegitimately arrested President Morsi in the deepest and darkest dungeons of the army. The media outlets and bank accounts of the movement have been illegitimately confiscated.
The Egyptian Islamic Brotherhood had avoided violence and operated like any other peaceful political organization for a lifetime. The Egyptian Army has a reputation for corruption and violence; in recent days, the new dictator is enjoying substantial help from Israel.
The Egyptian army, one more self-serving gang claiming to serve the people, are protecting their own criminals. They freed the former dictator while illegitimately jailing the democratically elected President.

* Today’s ruling came during a separate hearing on charges that Mubarak had accepted gifts from state-run publisher al-Ahram. Mubarak claims that the money will be returned.
