Japan to provide education assistance to Myanmar

YANGON, April 11 (Xinhua) — The Japanese government will supply over 380,000 U.S. dollars for the education sector in Myanmar this month, local media reported Wednesday.

Under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP/GGA) Scheme, the government will provide for such projects in the education sector as construction of monastic post- primary school, middle school, high school, upgrading of the vocational training center, said the Flower News.

The Japanese government also planned to help with other humanitarian projects for Myanmar, the report added.

This assistance will benefit students in their pursuit of formal studies, and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.

In March this year, the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by Japanese Ambassador Takashi Saito and Myanmar Minister of National Planning and Economic Development U Tin Naing Thein in Nay Pyi Taw, covers 1.6 billion yen (19.12 million U.S. dollars) to be spent on embankment and bridge building, rehabilitation of flood victims, and natural disaster control activities.
