John Bolton: U.S. Will Not Cooperate with International Criminal Court

National Security Adviser John Bolton delivered remarks at the Federalist Society in Washington, DC. He criticized the authority and legitimacy of the International Criminal Court (ICC) stating,

“The United States will use any means necessary to protect our citizens and those of our allies from unjust prosecution by this illegitimate court. We will not cooperate with the ICC. We will provide no assistance to the ICC. And we certainly will not join the ICC.”

Bolton threatened ICC judges with sanctions if they attempt to prosecute Americans over alleged war crimes in Afghanistan. The ICC is an intergovernmental organization based in the Netherlands that hears cases on genocide and other crimes against humanity.
