A 29-year-old employee committed suicide Wednesday by jumping out of a government office building because of a family dispute, the Global Times learned Thursday.
An eyewitness, surnamed Chu, told the Beijing Morning Post Thursday that he saw a dead man lying on the ground outside the Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council in Xibianmen, Xicheng district. Police were called in around 8:00 am Wednesday.
While hundreds of Web users stubbornly suspected a “deeper reason” behind the cause of death, the commission’s publicity official confirmed with the Global Times that it was because of a “family dispute.”
Liu Shengjun, deputy director of CEIBS Lujiazui International Finance Research Center said in his post that “he must be under huge stress and depression, as he worked in such vital department.” His post was retweeted 87 times in an hour.
Su Guifeng, spokesman for the State-owned commission confirmed on his Weibo account Thursday morning that a 29-year-old male IT engineer had died after he jumped from the office building. The deceased worked for its direct subordinate unit in Beijing, Beijing Zhongqi Xintong Technology Company.
“The police report concluded he committed suicide. He left a letter talking about ‘love and family dispute,'” Su told the Global Times Thursday. “Now we are in the process of helping out the relatives,” he said.
Su noted it is inappropriate to reveal more out of “concerns for the relatives’ feelings.”
