The “Mobile Xi’an International Horticultural Expo” activity, a road show to promote the International Horticultural Exposition 2011 in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, was held in Chongqing on Sunday morning.
The ceremony was attended by Lu Menghu, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Xi’an Municipal People’s Congress and deputy director of the executive committee of the Expo, Ding Xiaogang, vice secretary-general of Chongqing Municipal People’s Government, and other leaders from the two cities.
At the ceremony, Lu introduced and promoted the Expo to the residents of Chongqing. According to Liu, since its commencement, the Expo has run smoothly for over 60 days and the cumulative number of visitors has reached nearly 4 million. Many gardens, including the Master, Creativity, and World gardens, have won considerable praise from visitors, and the “Four Landmarks,” including the Chang’an Tower, Guangyun Entrance, the Greenhouse and the Theme Pavilion, have become extremely popular spots. Other sites, like the green sculpture and the special services zone, have all been favorably received by visitors. Another enjoyable element of the Expo is the 5,000 performances of over 40 teams of performers from 14 countries as well as eight cities in China.
In his speech, Ding delivered his welcome to the guests from Xi’an and expressed his thanks to the city for its kind invitation, stating his hope that other Chongqing residents would also visit the Expo.
Passionate performances, including wonderful dances and ethnic drum solos, were performed at the site, with small gifts offered to residents. Many attendees said that if they have the opportunity, they will visit Xi’an and the Expo.
The road show has already been held in Taiyuan, Zhengzhou, Luoyang, Lanzhou, and Chengdu in April of this year. Later this month, the road show will move on to Shiyan, Wuhan, Tianshui, Xining, Yinchuan, and other 10 cities in Shaanxi Province.
The Xi’an International Horticultural Expo will be held from April 28, 2011 to October 22, 2011 (178 days) at the Guangyun Lake, Chanba Ecological District, Xi’an. The Expo’s theme is “Eternal peace & harmony between nature & mankind, nurturing the future earth — a city for nature, co-existing in peace”, with the slogan, “Green leads the trend.”
