Russia and China presented a defiant front after the US threatened Beijing with sanctions over aiding Moscow’s war in Ukraine.
Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi and President Xi Jinping as both sides pledged to work on “double counteracting” the Euro-Atlantic alliance led by the US.
Lavrov and his Chinese diplomatic said Moscow and Beijing both agreed that any meeting on Ukraine ignoring Russia’s interests is futile.
US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, who wrapped up her second visit to Beijing since July 2023, warned that Washington will sanction Chinese banks and companies, as well as the country’s leadership, if they aid Russia in its invasion of Ukraine.
