President Obama ran for president in 2008 on a promise of closing down the U.S. prisoner detention center at the U.S. naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Recently, Obama went back on his word by ordering closed down the State Department office in charge of closing down the detention camps. On January 22, 2009, two days after Obama was sworn in as president, he issued an Executive Order that stated; «The detention facilities at Guantánamo for individuals covered by this order shall be closed as soon as practicable, and no later than one year from the date of this order.» Four years later, the Guantanamo detention centers remain open…
Shortly after Obama was sworn in for his second term, the State Department announced the special envoy for closing Guantanamo, Daniel Fried, was being reassigned and would not be replaced. Adding insult to injury, the Obama administration named Fried as the head of U.S. sanctions policy, which includes the over five decade long economic blockade of Cuba.
Obama clearly has other plans for Guantanamo that have nothing to do with closing the book on a shameful American legacy of maintaining a tropical gulag in the Caribbean Sea.
The Obama administration clearly foresees as political change coming to Cuba during his second term. Just as the United States used its bases in West Germany and West Berlin to facilitate NATO’s absorption of East Germany and the other Eastern European nations, it sees Guantanamo as a salient within Cuba to transition the socialist island nation back into an American «banana republic», akin to Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, and Guatemala.
It is for such a reason that the United States has remained in illegal possession of Guantanamo Bay more than a decade after its 99-year lease expired. For the United States, Guantanamo or «Gitmo» as it is known to U.S. military personnel, is a forward base for U.S. imperialism in the Caribbean and, more widely, in Latin America.
When Cuba becomes a friendlier place for «democracy advocates» funded by international George Soros and other CIA-linked benefactors top operate, the Guantanamo base will be a focal point for the dissemination of American propaganda that will be used to debase the government of Fidel and Raul Castro. The same anti-Communist «information warfare» used against Serbian President Slobodon Milosevic will be used by U.S.-funded Cuban «democracy» activists.
Obama has shown no sign of relaxing sanctions imposed on non-Cuban American traveling to Cuba. This permits Cuba travel to be solely in the domain of the right-wing Cuban-American Gusano community, which is closely protecting its exclusive access to Cuba by helping to stir up anti-Communist opposition to the Castros and their transitioning government.
To assist the Gusanos are two Cuban-American right-wing Republican U.S. senators, Marco Rubio of Florida and the Cuban-Canadian-American Ted Cruz from Texas. Ironically, both gained power as the result of support from the ultra-American nationalistic «Tea Party», when in fact, Rubio’s and Cruz’s first loyalties are to deposing the Cuban government and replacing it with a corporate-fascist regime beholden to the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, and U.S.-led Organization of American States.

Rubio and Cruz are assisted in their subversive activities directed against Cuba by Democratic Senator from New Jersey Robert Menendez and Florida Republican Representatives Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (who, as a descendant of a Cuban Jewish family, also serves to ensure support for anti-Castro activities by the Israel Lobby in Washington) and Mario Diaz Balart, as well as New Jersey Democratic Representative Albio Sires.
Cuba is made-to-order for the destabilizing street actions developed by CIA coup d’etat strategist Gene Sharp and funded by Soros’s intelligence pass-through non-governmental organizations like Human Rights Watch and the Cuban opposition movement «Ladies in White.» The use of colors as symbols for their contrived revolutions are a favorite tool for Sharp and Soros, as seen by the use of orange in the rebellion in Ukraine, purple in Kyrgyzstan, and green in Iran.
In December 2009, Alan Gross, an American employee of Development Alternatives, Inc (DAI), a U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) contractor, was arrested at Havana airport. DAI once employed Stanley Ann Dunham Sutoro, President Obama’s mother, in dubious CIA-connected field sociology projects in Indonesia in the early 1980s. USAID had already launched a regime change program in Cuba and Gross was being funded by the money allotted for the overthrow of the Castro government.
Gross was a specialist in bypassing state media operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and he was discovered by Cuban authorities installing satellite and other communications equipment for Cuba’s small Jewish community that numbers around 2000 people. The Cuban government charged Gross with espionage and a Cuban court later found him guilty of the charges.
There were immediate calls by America’s anti-Castro Cubans, including Ros-Lehtinen, for Gross’s release. Cuba appeared ready to swap Gross for five Cuban intelligence agents jailed in the United States in 1998 for keeping track of Cuban terrorists in south Florida, many of whom were directly linked to Ros-Lehtinen and Diaz-Balart.
The Obama administration dug in its heels on the «Cuba Five», not even allowing one of them, Rene Gonzalez, to return to Cuba after his release from prison on probation.
The Obama administration intends to use Guantanamo Bay as a forward base to infiltrate Cuban-Americans into Cuba after a hoped-for fall of the current government. Under tremendous pressure from the Cuban contingent in the U.S. Congress, the United States intends to fly a «Cuba Democracy Corps», made up of some of the worst criminal elements of the Gusano communities of Florida and New Jersey, to the U.S. naval base where they will wait for their marching orders to Havana, Santiago de Cuba, and other Cuban cities and towns.
The U.S. State Department has been nurturing a Cuban contingent similar to the «Captive Nations» group – U.S. citizens of eastern European ancestry who bided their time to enter various eastern European nations after the collapse of the Berlin Wall to take over political power.
They included Chicago resident Valdas Adamkus who became president of Lithuania; New Jersey resident Toomas Ilves, who became president of Estonia; Elizabeth Karageorgevic, of Princess Elizabeth of defunct Yugoslavia, who ran for president of Serbia; and Catherine Claire Chumachenko, a Ronald Reagan administration official and wife of Orange Revolution leader and Ukrainian president Viktor Yushchenko.
There are already U.S. military psychological operations personnel on standby to fly to Guantanamo at the first signs of a change in power in Havana to begin distributing Spanish-language propaganda developed by the Central Intelligence Agency and its assets in the Gusano community.
In addition, Jose Marti Radio and Television, run by the U.S. Broadcasting Board of Governors, has plans to supplement its U.S.-based broadcasts by relocating studious and transmitters to Guantanamo to feed the Cuban people a steady dose of sensationalistic anti-communist and anti-Castro propaganda not unlike what is delivered to the American English-speaking population every day on Fox News, MS-NBC, and CNN. In fact, the U.S. Army’s psychological warfare unit at Fort Bragg has worked closely with U.S. broadcasters like CNN to hone their ability to broadcast propaganda into trouble spots for American global imperialism – from Kosovo to Venezuela.
Among the so-called «Cuban community» at the U.S. naval base are Gusanos who maintain close contact with Fort Bragg «Psyops» personnel who, in turn, have developed contacts with Cubans who are allowed to work on the base but live in nearby towns. U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), based in Miami, has liaison officers assigned to the Miami Cuban community who have jointly developed plans for a post-Castro U.S. military insertion into Cuba, largely from Guantanamo but also from Florida and Puerto Rico.
After securing Cuba from Guantanamo Bay, the American propaganda machine will proclaim Cuban socialism «dead» and Washington intends to use Havana as a center for launching programs to roll back progressive politics and socialism throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Because of the high stakes involved, President Obama never intended to «close» Guantanamo. It has and will remain a power projection of the Pentagon into Cuba and the Caribbean.
