Red Cross Society of China scandal darling Guo Meimei reported receiving harassment and threats to a police station in Beijing on Sunday.
Guo drove with her grandmother in her Mini Cooper to the Balizhuang police station in Chaoyang district to report she had received mobile phone text messages threatening to kill her. Strangers knocked on her door day and night, the Beijing Youth Daily reported on Monday.
“My grandmother went to buy vegetables in the early morning. The strangers may scare her,” Guo told the newspaper, as her grandmother had encountered strangers at Guo’s door three times in two weeks.
Guo’s parading of her luxurious life on weibo.com in June as a Red Cross “business general manager” provoked fierce questions from the public about her relationship with charity officials.
A Balizhuang police officer who refused to be named checked the records on Sunday, but said she didn’t find any record for Guo’s report. The officer on duty on Sunday was off work on Monday and could not be reached for comment.
The police had in fact not registered or recorded Guo’s complaint, the Beijing Youth Daily reported, as police told her she was a celebrity and so they could not stop others trying to interview or approach her. She had not suffered physical harm or threats and so the police did not take her complaint, it reported.
Guo had said in earlier media reports she hoped to enter show business and posted her assistant’s phone number on her microblog. Guo’s assistant’s phone could not be reached on Monday.
Guo released a song on Friday. Some 35,983 people had commented as of on Monday afternoon at weibo.com and most cursed Guo, suggesting her police complaint as hype for her new song.
