A Korean parliamentary accused China coveted about Su Reef, and said the Chinese boats increasingly appeared nearby the Su Reef. The Chinese boats showed three times in 2007, twice in 2008, ninth in 2009, sixth in 2010, and finally eleventh in this year.
The Korea Daily thought the reason why China showed their interest in the reef was the resources of oil and nature gas in there. China wanted to regard this area as the disputes field for the resources. The parliamentary said Korean government should strengthen the maritime police force to support this area.
The Su Reef is on the continental shelf which belongs to China’s Exclusive Economic Zone. However, Korea continues to define it as an island and attempts to bring the reef into the their own exclusive economic zone.
