One of skyscrapers in the Moscow City business district is ablaze in the center of the Russian capital.
It’s reported to be one of the buildings under construction. The fire can be seen on the top floors of the building.
“The fire is located between the 22nd and 23rd floors of the 25-story building under construction” RIA Novosti reports, citing a source in Emergencies Ministry. Twenty firefighting teams are at the scene.
The Emergencies Ministry reports the fire has been localized and confirms one person was injured. Two hundred and twenty workers have been evacuated from the site.
There is a strong smell of smoke in the area, witnesses report.
The failure of a fan heater is reported to be the cause of fire on top of the ‘OKO’ skyscraper under construction in the Russian capital. “Shields that covered concrete caught fire,” says the president of the ‘City’ business complex.
The skyscraper is less than half-completed. At the moment it’s at the level of the 25th floor, however, the final plan eyes it as an 85-story tower, says construction company Capital Group. They named the tower ‘Oko’.
In April 2012, another skyscraper under construction in the same Moscow City complex caught fire. That time it was at the level of the 67th floor. It took four hours to extinguish the blaze with help of 25 firefighting teams and four helicopters.
